THE STORY Chelsie Louise was a spring baby. Everyone was celebrating May 5th when her parents, Mark and Eileen had their daughter. She was their only daughter. They had two older kids, both boys named Brandon and Erick. Both of the boys weren’t really fond of Chelsie, seeing as she’s the one who was getting pampered and that stuff while they were younger. She never planned to get pampered; after all, she didn’t expect anything out of her life. But it was what she was going to accept because of her being the only daughter. As the time went, her mother pressured her to be a dancer and her father wanted her to be somewhat athletic, and dancing apparently didn’t count. So, it was promised that she would get into some sports once high school came about. Which was going to be a while, but she would get there. By the age of five, she just started seeing these weird things, but she would brush them off, she didn’t need anyone to care or call her insane if they couldn’t see them either. But, nearly every day of every week of every . . . yeah you get where I’m going, she kept seeing these weird images and little voices that go with them. Clearly lost and now confused and scared, she went to her mother and told her about them, by now she had to be nine, so going on with this secretly for four years is kind of hard to take in. Her and Eileen sat down and talked about how she was a medium, seeing the deceased. It was hard, but Chelsie nodded, there were only a few key factors in this position. 1 being that her mother never had it so she didn’t know what it was like. 2 it was her grandmother that had it before, so clearly it was her grandmother she would have to head off to just to learn about this. Deciding it was probably best, they thought about Probably the only good thing of this all, was that at least none of her deceased family could connect to her, she would just go insane more if she got to see them. Those are the people she didn’t want to see again though it would be nice to say good bye and hello occasionally. But that was something that wasn’t going to happen soon. Letting Eileen’s judgment win, she sent Chelsie to go live with her grandmother, where she could help her control her ability. Apparently this had been decided for about years now, where Chelsie was at eleven when she moved. Did she like it so much? No, but if it was to help her, then she would do it. Catherine, her grandmother, had the spare room and took her granddaughter in. They talked and had the relationship any grandparent had with their grandchild. What was the biggest thing that helped a lot was having Chelsie close her mind to the deceased who kept taunting her. Chelsie never talked much of her ability, because she would just be known as the freak. Only her family would know, which she found out that her great-great grandmother was a medium. So, it was hereditary and nothing that anyone could do about it other than accepting it. The bond was close to them, and Chelsie learned that even her own grandmother could keep family out if they had died though it had pained her. It was about a year later when she had learned to keep family out of her way. Her mother and father were heading out to Aspen when they got into a car crash. The car was wrapped around a tree and impact immediately killed them. Erick, who was living in Charlotte, North Carolina and Brandon, who was on a school trip had returned home, helping Chelsie cope and just be with the family. It wasn’t too long that Chelsie started seeing the deceased parents of hers. Like Catherine had taught her, as much as it pained her to do this, she had to close them out of her mind and tell them to head to the other side. Life slowly started to fade back into reality and Chelsie had started school again, keeping the pain a secret as well as the ability, but Catherine could see right through her and couldn’t help her at all. To fight the pain herself, Chelsie went back to dancing; going into little competitions and winning awards, knowing that she was winning those medals in honor of her mom and dad, though he never believed dancing was a sport. Her only big supporter that was still around was Catherine, and occasionally Brandon, but it was mostly Catherine because of the bond they had since she lived there. By the time Chelsie got into high school, she had done the promise she had made her dad years ago, doing an athletic sport. Chelsie had joined the dance team there, stopping her original dance for the four years of high school, and then she joined volleyball and softball. Chelsie always kept herself busy, but with the ability, she had to learn to keep it off of the field and floor while she did school activities like the sports. It had been like this always, but now that she was in high school, it was more of a challenge for her. Now being a senior, she’s managing to get a few scholarships for colleges near Yucca Mountain for the sake of if she has problems with her ability and to stick close to the only family she has left in Yucca, her grandmother.
