Because of his family’s ability-enhanced bloodline, Grant’s family had already been in Yucca Mountain for a couple generations before his own birth. His parents welcomed him with open arms because they were happily married and possessed a proper environment to raise a child in. They named him Grant for no reason in particular. Cordell seemed to be the only name that flowed, and Cordell was, of course, their family’s name. Grant was a happy baby for the most part. He was slow to anger but he tended to be impatient and hungry all the time. It certainly put his parent’s skills as parents to the test. As a result, his little sister’s birth was postponed for eight years. Penny didn’t plan on having another child, but she did. Grant loved his little sister, and he quickly took the responsibility of a big brother even though she irritated him sometimes. For the most part, Grant’s life was fairly uneventful. He went to school at five years old, instantly making friends. He did well when it came to academics, scoring mostly B’s throughout his education. It wasn’t uncommon for a C to sneak its way into a report card every now and then. His parents didn’t mind as long as he didn’t fail, but they knew he had more potential than that. For the longest time, Grant was afraid of the dark. He hated the vulnerability of it. When he was eleven, his parents took him out to a festival in California. They stayed until nightfall, wandering off a bit of the way. People rushed by him, and in the confusion, he lost his parents. Terrified of being alone in the dark, Grant curled into a small ball and wished for his parents. He didn’t know it at first, but his body began to glow ferociously. It was so bright that people had to shield their eyes to take a proper look. Grant’s parents had seen him display his power once before. He was a baby then. They rushed over in the hope it was their son. When it was, they took him in their arms. Since then, he’s randomly lit up. Once, he was able to light himself up when the lesson finally clicked in class. Needless to say, it was a popular topic for a while. “Do you remember how Grant lit up like a lightbulb in algebra?” they’d say. Grant liked the popularity. He was a football player, so he had his connections. People sometimes made fun of his lips, but he never really allowed their taunts to faze him. Instead, he let them make him stronger. His lips set him apart from everyone else. They were unique. His love for music came accidentally. He hadn’t meant to sign up for Beginning Guitar junior year of high school, but a mix-up in his schedule placed him there. Before he had the chance to switch out, he fell in love. Since then, he graduated with a normal diploma, nothing special. He’s picked up singing because of one of his good buddies, and he’s been off to college. He attended UNLV for a year and a semester before he decided college wasn’t for him. He was battling with a nicotine habit then, something he picked up from his mother. After successfully quitting about a year later, Grant went back to school to become a bar tender at Rangler’s. It was easy for him to score the job. He also works part-time at the construction sites. Now, at twenty-two, Grant is looking into other things, too. Love is one such example. He’s had girlfriends before. All throughout high school, Grant had a countless total. In college, he had one serious girlfriend who he lost his virginity to. That quickly ended after she transferred colleges, and now he’s flying solo even though he could easily pick up anyone.
